JOB DESCRIPTION The Assistant Dean is responsible for providing leadership and supervision of the faculty and staff of the 4-H Youth Development Department in the development and implementation of 4-H programs. The Assistant Dean is responsible to the Dean of Extension or designee. Specific responsibilities include:
- Serve as a member of the Extension Administrative team, working closely with UT Extension and TSU cooperative Extension Administrators.
- Provide leadership to the 4-H youth development agents, specialists and programs. Mentor 4-H youth professionals in the department and statewide.
- Work closely with department heads, regional directors, Program leaders, and faculty in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating 4-H youth development programs.
- Provide leadership to establish and support interdisciplinary teams to address youth issues.
- Develop and administer financial support for Tennessee 4-H youth development programs including appropriated state and federal funds, grants, contracts, gifts and endowments. Provide leadership and support to the Tennessee 4-H Foundation.
- Provide leadership for marketing and public relations and serve as spokesperson for 4-H programs and in addressing issues facing youth.
- Provide leadership, support and supervision to the 4-H Center Managers as well as to the 4-H Centers.
- Share leadership in Extension's commitment to programs for the diversity represented in Tennessee's population.
- Engage in scholarly and creative youth development work in support of county/regional 4-H programs and professionals.
- Facilitate and monitor the development of collaborative efforts with other colleges, agencies, and organizations engaged in youth development.
- Provide leadership for multi-state activities related to 4-H curriculum materials and programs, including electronic media.
- Develop partnerships with 4-H National Headquarters, CSREES-USDA and National 4-H Council.
- Direct the development of educational materials and effective professional development in-service programs.
- Provide leadership for programs that meet the needs of eligible clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religion, or veteran status.

REQUIREMENTS Earned doctorate degree in Youth Development, Education, Agriculture, Family and consumer sciences, or a closely related field required.
- Work experience which has demonstrated abilities and skills necessary to successfully perform the duties of this position.
- Demonstrated leadership and administrative capabilities in the duties of this position.
- Demonstrated success in grant and contract and fund development efforts preferred.
- Experience in an Extension Service (or Cooperative Extension Service) is highly preferred, county-level and/or middle management Extension experience desired.
- Individuals with qualifications for rank of full professor with tenure preferred.
